Makkum is a cool place in Friesland, where many watersporters come to enjoy their passion. The spot is close to a very good wingfoil spot called Kornwerderzand and the Afsluitdijk. You can park close by the water, there is a beach where you can set up your gear (Strand De Holle Poarte).
Great spot when wind is Northwest, West, Southwest.
The spot is next to the boulevard of Makkum, where you find bars, snackbars, surf shops and other facilities. It’s a good place if you like to hang around before and after your session as well. You can park close to the water, be sure to check if you need to pay.
Good to know
The water at Makkum is not very deep, actually the beach is known for it’s wide area of hips-deep water. This makes it very family friendly but for wingfoiling you have to walk through the water about 500 to 800 meters before you can get on the foil. If you look for a spot where it’s easier and faster to get on the foil, because of more depth, go to Kornwerderzand.
Kornwerderzand is just 15 mins driving from Makkum and has better depth for wing foiling.
